Actor Randolph Mantooth Dies at 80

Randolph Mantooth, the actor best known for playing firefighter‑paramedic Johnny Gage on NBC’s series *Emergency!* (1972‑1977), died on July 9, 2026 at age 80. He passed away peacefully at a palliative‑care center in Ventura, California after a period of ill health. Mantooth’s portrayal helped introduce the emerging profession of paramedicine to a wide American audience and inspired many later emergency‑service professionals.

Born Randy DeRoy Mantooth on September 19, 1945 in Sacramento, he grew up in Santa Barbara, studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, and launched a five‑decade career that included guest roles on shows such as *Auto‑Patrol*, *The New Sheriff of Townsville*, and *Operation Danger*. He is survived by his wife Kristen, brother Donald, sister Tonya, and other close relatives.
