Wayne Elliot Knight was born on 7 August 1955 in New York City and grew up in Cartersville, Georgia. After an early stint as a high‑school football lineman, he pursued acting, completing an internship at Virginia’s Barter Theatre before finishing his degree in 2008.

Knight’s breakout film role came as Dennis Nedry in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster *Jurassic Park*, earning him a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He is best remembered on television for playing the scheming mailman Newman on NBC’s *Seinfeld* from 1992 to 1998, and later as Officer Don Orville on *3rd Rock from the Sun*.
