Actor Yuen Tin-chiu discusses relocating to mainland China
Former ATV star Yuen Tin-chiu has shared details regarding his decision to move from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, China, to seek a lower-stress lifestyle. After gaining fame in the 1990s for his role in ‘My Date with a Vampire’, Yuen has largely stepped away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry.
Yuen noted that the cost of living and medical expenses in Hong Kong are significantly higher than in mainland China. He highlighted that certain medical treatments, such as specific injections, are several thousand Hong Kong dollars cheaper in the mainland. He and his wife, Teresa, have purchased a home in Panyu and are considering selling their Hong Kong property to settle there permanently.
Reflecting on personal challenges, Yuen discussed his wife’s battle with leukemia in 2011 and his own struggle with rheumatoid arthritis. He emphasized that his experiences led to a shift in his life philosophy, prioritizing health and family over career ambitions. Other veteran actors, such as Kam Hing-yin, have also expressed satisfaction with the lower cost of living in cities like Zhongshan.
