Actress Ahn Eun Jin sparks debate over on-set request

South Korean actress Ahn Eun Jin has sparked an online debate following revelations about her experiences filming the MBC drama ‘My Dearest’. During an appearance on the YouTube channel Fairy Jaehyung, Ahn shared that she struggled with low self-confidence due to public scrutiny of her casting and the lingering effects of facial paralysis experienced during her previous project, ‘The Good Bad Mother’.

To cope with these challenges, Ahn admitted she approached the director with the request, ‘Please adore me. I’m someone who does well when I feel loved.’ The director reportedly responded positively, working closely with her on the script to help develop her performance. While ‘My Dearest’ ultimately became a career-defining success for the actress, her comments have divided public opinion.

Supporters have praised her for her vulnerability and for setting aside her pride to communicate her needs effectively. Conversely, critics have labeled the request selfish, arguing that it places an undue emotional burden on directors and suggests that a production should not revolve around an individual actor's emotional state.
