Actress Akima alleges unauthorized use of her face for AI avatars

Colombian actress and model Akima, known for her role in the Netflix series ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’, has denounced the unauthorized use of her likeness to create artificial intelligence avatars. The actress, whose real name is Laura Sofía Grueso, alleges that a Mexican producer, Mauricio Sierra, used her photographs to develop six to seven digital characters.

According to Grueso, these AI-generated avatars were intended for luxury brand advertising campaigns across Europe, the United States, and Latin America. The producer reportedly justified the creation of these characters by claiming he could not find suitable faces in the real world to meet client demands.

Legal experts note that using a person's image to train AI for commercial purposes without prior, informed, and explicit consent constitutes a violation of image rights. Akima is currently evaluating legal actions in both the United States and Europe with the support of her representation agencies.
