Actress Cheryl Hall dies at 76
English actress Cheryl Hall has died at the age of 76. Her former partner, actor Robin Askwith, announced her passing on August 12, describing her as an ‘innovative and charismatic working-class actress’ who was ‘brave in every way.’
Hall was best known for her role as Shirley Johnson in the BBC sitcom ‘Citizen Smith’ (1977–1979), starring alongside her then-husband Robert Lindsay. Her extensive television career included appearances in ‘The Bill,’ ‘EastEnders,’ ‘Doctor Who,’ ‘Silent Witness,’ and ‘Casualty.’
In addition to her acting career, Hall was active in politics. She served as a member of the Kent County Council, where she held the position of Leader of the Labour group, and was the Labour Party’s parliamentary candidate for Canterbury during the 1997 general election.
