SBS discusses actress Hayoung’s role amid pro-Japanese controversy

Broadcaster SBS is currently conducting internal discussions regarding the participation of actress Hayoung in the upcoming drama ‘Seungsan Isseumnida’ (There is a Chance) following controversy over her great-grandfather’s pro-Japanese activities.

Hayoung recently issued a handwritten apology after her agency initially denied the allegations but later confirmed that her great-grandfather, An Sang-ho, was listed as a member of the pro-Japanese organization ‘Daejeong Chinmokhoe’ in 1916. The actress stated she would study history more deeply and expressed sincere apologies as a descendant.

Reports suggest that filming for the legal comedy drama, which stars Lee Je-hoon, may conclude around September 3. SBS has stated they are carefully coordinating remaining schedules to minimize damage to the numerous staff and cast members involved. The network is weighing various options, including whether to proceed with the current cast, delay broadcasting, or consider replacing the actress, though the latter presents significant financial and logistical challenges given that filming is reportedly over 90% complete.
