Actress Marialena Karmpouri passes away after battle with cancer

Greek actress Marialena Karmpouri has passed away following a battle with cancer. The news was shared by actor Spyros Bibilas, who described her as one of the most talented and ethereal figures to grace the Greek stage.

Karmpouri was a graduate of the ‘Iasmos’ Drama School and rose to prominence during the 1980s in theatre, film, and television. Her notable stage work included performances at the National Theatre of Greece, such as in ‘Amphitryon’ in 1977.

In cinema, she is remembered for roles in films such as ‘Poniro Thilyko… Katergara Gynaika!’ (1980) alongside Aliki Vougiouklaki, and ‘Ston Dromo tou Theou’ (1982). Her television career included appearances in various series, such as ‘O Katadikos’ (1983) and ‘Sta Ftera tou Erota’.
