Actress Sreelekha Mitra Faces FIR Over Controversial Modi Poster at Kolkata NEET Protest

During a NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) protest in Kolkata, actress Sreelekha Mitra was photographed holding a poster that displayed a distorted image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The image quickly spread on social media, prompting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to lodge formal complaints.

BJP leaders filed First Information Reports (FIRs) at both Anandapur police station and the Bidhannagar cyber crime police station, accusing Mitra of defaming the Prime Minister and demanding her immediate arrest. BJP spokesperson Keya Ghosh urged swift legal action, while West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari referenced his "zero tolerance" policy in remarks supporting the complaint.

Mitra denied any intentional wrongdoing, stating she unintentionally picked up the poster amid a crowded gathering and was unable to see its contents. She described the allegations as a misunderstanding and said she was prepared for arrest if it were ordered.
