Actress Urmila Sanawar arrested in Saharanpur over extortion and harassment allegations
Actress Urmila Sanawar has been arrested in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, following allegations of extortion, online harassment, and making death threats. The arrest was initiated by Haridwar police after Deepika Rathore, the daughter of former Uttarakhand BJP MLA Suresh Rathore, filed a formal complaint.
According to police statements, Sanawar allegedly posted obscene and defamatory remarks on social media to damage the complainant's family reputation. The complaint further alleges that Sanawar demanded the transfer of the ‘Ravidas Peeth’ property to her name and requested Rs 5 crore, threatening to kill the family and circulate private media if the demands were not met. Sanawar has been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. Police noted that she has nine existing cases filed against her.
Separately, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has served Sanawar a notice to undergo a narco-analysis test. This is part of an ongoing investigation into a viral audio clip related to the 2022 Ankita Bhandari murder case in Uttarakhand.
