Ada Avdagić wins historic taekwondo bronze for Bosnia and Herzegovina
Ada Avdagić has won a bronze medal in taekwondo at the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto, marking the first time Bosnia and Herzegovina has won a medal in this sport at the event.
Competing in the under 57 kg category, Avdagić secured her place in the semi-finals by defeating Spain’s Carla Sesar Vila with a score of 2:1. She later faced Turkey’s Hatice Kübra İlgun in the fight for a spot in the finals, ultimately losing 2:1 to secure the bronze.
Other Bosnian representatives also competed in the tournament. Ibrahim Đonko won his round of 16 match against Lebanon’s Marco Zarifeh (2:0) before being eliminated in the quarter-finals by Algeria’s Nadir Harbi (2:0). Benjamin Husić lost 2:1 to Croatia’s Marko Golubić in the round of 16, and Džejla Makaš was defeated 2:1 by Andorra’s Naiara Linan Pardo in the quarter-finals.
