Ada Medical City groundbreaking set for September in Ghana

Organizers are scheduled to break ground on the Ada Medical City in Ada, Ghana, on September 7, 2026. The project, described as the country’s first integrated medical city, is being spearheaded by Africa’s Brain Bank, a global diaspora investment and development organization, with formal backing from the Ghana Tourism Authority.

The initiative aims to address the issue of medical tourism and the “brain drain” of African medical professionals. Dr. Michael K. Obeng, founder of Miko Plastic Surgery and Miko Pharma, stated that the continent faces a capital allocation problem rather than a shortage of talent, noting that the project seeks to provide infrastructure to retain specialists and offer high-value care locally to prevent patients from traveling to destinations like India.

While the project is positioned to boost the visitor economy through healthcare-related travel, specific details regarding the total budget, lead investors, and phased construction timelines have not yet been made public.
