ADAC and Stiftung Warentest release child car seat safety results
The ADAC, in collaboration with Stiftung Warentest and European partners, has released the results of a comprehensive test of 16 child car seats and infant carriers. The evaluation focused on safety during crashes, handling, ergonomics, and the presence of harmful substances.
Approximately half of the tested models received a “good” rating. The Maxi-Cosi Coral Slide Pro with FamilyFix Slide Pro emerged as the overall winner with a score of 2.1. Other top performers included the Recaro Toron 1 and the Cybex Sirona G3. Notably, the Britax Römer Babysafe Pro was the only model found to be completely free of harmful substances.
Two models failed the safety tests significantly. The Britax Römer Baby-Safe Pro and the Axkid Minikid Core both failed frontal crash tests, posing serious injury risks. In response to these findings, manufacturers have initiated recalls or sales suspensions. Additionally, testers identified concerns regarding chemical concentrations, such as elevated PFAS levels in the Avionaut Aerofix Smart and potential carcinogens in models from Lionelo and Axkid.
