ADAC evaluates voice control effectiveness in modern vehicles

The ADAC has conducted a study on voice control systems in modern vehicles to determine if they can mitigate the distractions caused by complex touchscreen menus. The evaluation tested 40 vehicle models across three categories: infotainment, climate control, and safety-relevant functions.

Results varied significantly among manufacturers. The BMW 5 Series performed exceptionally well, successfully executing 16 out of 18 tested commands. In contrast, the Suzuki e-Vitara received a poor rating, managing only three out of 18 commands. Dacia also showed limitations, as its steering wheel voice button only controls a connected smartphone rather than the vehicle itself.

While infotainment systems showed the highest success rate with 35 vehicles receiving good or very good ratings, the study highlights the ongoing struggle to replace physical buttons with reliable voice interfaces.
