Adachi Ward in Tokyo offers free summer workshops and facility access for children

Tokyo’s Adachi Ward is running the "Adachi Work Work in Summer" programme from 21 July to 31 August 2024. The initiative, launched in 2023 to narrow the "experience gap" among children, provides 109 thematic workshops – ranging from career‑oriented activities to hands‑on science projects – and free entry to 44 public facilities for anyone aged 18 or younger.

Participating venues include the ward’s pool, community gyms, the Galaxy City planetarium, the local museum and the biological garden. The biological garden will extend its opening hours by 30 minutes and waive admission, while the planetarium offers free tickets for youngsters. Events such as a cicada‑emergence observation, DNA‑extraction workshops and a summer‑science week are scheduled. The programme is open to residents of Adachi as well as children from other areas, aiming to give all participants a diverse summer learning experience.
