Adam Benák moves to NCAA Western Michigan to pursue NHL goals

Czech hockey prospect Adam Benák is transitioning to the NCAA to play for Western Michigan University. The 19-year-old forward, who was drafted in the fourth round by the Minnesota Wild, views the collegiate level as a vital stepping stone between junior hockey and professional leagues like the NHL or AHL.

Benák previously played in the USHL and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he recorded significant offensive production for the Brantford Bulldogs, averaging 1.6 points per game last season. Despite his smaller stature at approximately 174 cm, he has maintained high productivity through elite playmaking and hockey intelligence.

In addition to his athletic commitments, Benák will study sports management at Western Michigan. He noted that the decision to pursue the NCAA route was made in consultation with the Minnesota Wild organization, who supported the move.
