Adam Hamilton faces scrutiny in Kansas Senate race over 2020 sermon

Democratic Senate candidate Adam Hamilton is facing intense scrutiny in the Kansas race following the resurfacing of a 2020 sermon. In the recording, Hamilton, a megachurch pastor, discussed the environmental impact of cattle and suggested that changing diets to reduce methane and carbon dioxide emissions could be a form of stewardship and repentance. Opponents have used edited clips of the sermon in attack ads to claim Hamilton is calling for voters to ‘repent for eating beef,’ a message that resonates sharply in Kansas, a major beef-producing state.

In an effort to position himself as a political outsider, Hamilton has also proposed serving no more than two terms in the Senate and stated he has no interest in pursuing investigations into Donald Trump. Additionally, his campaign has faced criticism for an advertisement regarding incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall that contained factual inaccuracies regarding a legal matter involving medical debt.
