Adam Hamilton, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Kansas, is facing scrutiny over past religious teachings. Following his August 2026 primary victory, clips from previous sermons have circulated online.
In a 2022 video, Hamilton discussed the salvation of non-Christians, suggesting that followers of other faiths, such as Islam, Hinduism, and Judaism, would eventually see Jesus when they reach Heaven. He stated, “I don’t fear that those folks will spend eternity in Hell.” His campaign has responded to the controversy by clarifying that his views represent “inclusivism, not universalism,” noting that he has previously stated not all religions are equally valid.
Additionally, Hamilton has addressed theological tensions regarding biblical interpretation. In a 2015 video, he questioned how much latitude Christians have to push back on scripture, specifically regarding the Apostle Paul’s writings. He has also argued that certain church practices, such as barring women from the pulpit, may misinterpret Paul’s letters when compared to the actions of Jesus.
