Adam Hamilton responds to JD Vance's religious criticisms in Kansas Senate race
Democratic Senate candidate Adam Hamilton has criticized Vice President JD Vance, calling his recent attacks on Hamilton's religious beliefs ‘pathetic’ and ‘a sign of desperation.’
During an interview on ABC News’ ‘This Week,’ Hamilton, a pastor at the Church of the Resurrection, addressed claims made by Vance at a Kansas rally. Vance had characterized Hamilton’s views as ‘left wing radicalism dressed in the skin suit of our religion’ and suggested Hamilton’s beliefs were incompatible with Christianity. Hamilton rejected these assertions, stating that Vance knows nothing about his faith or his personal religious convictions.
The Senate race in Kansas has become a focal point of the 2026 midterm elections. Republicans have held this specific Senate seat continuously since 1919, and no Democrat has won a Senate election in the state since 1932. Hamilton, who serves one of the largest United Methodist Church congregations in the United States, is seeking to end this long-standing Republican hold on the seat.
