Adam Michnik celebrates 80th birthday with retrospective program

To mark his 80th birthday, Gazeta Wyborcza editor-in-chief Adam Michnik is participating in a special 24-part program titled ‘Alfabet Michnika’ (The Michnik Alphabet). The series, which premiered on October 16, uses the alphabet to guide reflections on his personal and political life, covering significant moments in Polish and European history.

In an interview, Michnik reflected on the current political landscape, noting the loss of the democratic camp in Russia and the destruction of civil society there following the war in Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of holding power accountable and expressed his commitment to the values of a free and independent Poland, despite his declining ability to write due to vision issues.
