Brisbane Broncos coach Michael Maguire addresses Adam Reynolds retirement controversy

Brisbane Broncos veteran halfback Adam Reynolds has officially retired from the NRL following a calf injury. The decision has sparked significant controversy after Reynolds was ruled out of a final home game at Suncorp Stadium by coach Michael Maguire and the club's medical staff, despite Reynolds expressing a desire to play.

Following the announcement, Broncos fullback Reece Walsh faced scrutiny after ‘liking’ a social media post that described the decision to bench Reynolds as ‘embarrassing and sad’. Maguire addressed the incident, stating he has met with Walsh to clear the air and that the situation is distinct from previous disciplinary issues within the club.

Teammates, including Ben Hunt and former colleague Cody Walker, have expressed disappointment regarding the lack of a formal farewell match for the 36-year-old. Maguire has maintained that the decision was made to prevent further injury to Reynolds, while insisting he retains the support of the senior playing group.
