Adam Świerzyński and maritime themes featured in MEAKULTURA
The latest issue of MEAKULTURA explores the intersection of music and the sea through various scholarly and artistic perspectives. A central focus is the work of Adam Świerzyński, a prominent Polish composer recognized for integrating maritime themes and Kashubian and Kociewie folklore into classical music. Dr. hab. Dorota Stanisławska examines Świerzyński’s contributions, noting his belief that music is the art form closest to the nature of the sea.
Additional features in the publication include an investigation into historical acoustemology regarding sea sounds by Tomasz Drozdowski, and an interview with conductor Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch regarding her work with the Maritime University Choir in Szczecin. The issue also profiles Lithuanian composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, exploring the synesthetic qualities of his music, and analyzes Maurice Ravel’s ‘Une barque sur l’océan’ and its influence on popular music.
