Adam Wingard's 'Onslaught' follows super-soldier escape

Adam Wingard’s new action-horror film, ‘Onslaught’, follows Celeste (Adria Arjona), a former Army sniper and single mother living in a desert trailer park. The plot centers on a group of genetically engineered super-soldiers—codenamed The Butcher, The Cockroach, and The Crybaby—who escape from a nearby secret military research facility and begin a violent rampage.

Critics have noted the film’s return to Wingard’s low-budget, genre-focused roots following his work on larger franchises like ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’. While reviews highlight the film’s visceral violence, practical effects, and Arjona’s intense performance, some commentators describe the work as ‘style over substance,’ noting a muddled narrative and a runtime that may feel rushed or incomplete.

The production, associated with A24, features Dan Stevens as a scientist involved in the creation of the soldiers and Rebecca Hall as his wife. Home media releases, including 4K Blu-ray Steelbooks, are scheduled for late 2026.
