Adamawa Governor backs Kanu’s football and health initiatives
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has pledged government support for the Governor’s Cup, a grassroots football tournament designed to identify and develop young talent across the state’s 21 local government areas. The initiative, proposed by former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu, aims to provide players from rural and remote communities with exposure to professional scouts.
Governor Fintiri emphasized that the selection process must remain transparent and based strictly on merit, warning against political interference or favoritism. The tournament is expected to conclude with a grand finale at the state’s newly constructed stadium in Yola.
In addition to the sporting event, the partnership includes a health initiative led by the Kanu Heart Foundation. This program will feature a six-kilometer fitness walk and free cardiovascular screenings to promote preventive healthcare among residents.
