Adamawa local government chairmen and councillors defect to APC

All 21 local government chairmen and 226 councillors in Adamawa State have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The mass defection, which occurred on Monday, October 19, 2026, was confirmed by APC State Publicity Secretary Victor Dogo. He stated that the move was intended to align the local leaders with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Various council leaders cited personal reasons and consultations with families and political associates as motivations for their departure. For instance, Akham Jalo, chairman of the Demsa Local Government Area, noted that the decision was made to attract more development to the council. Similarly, Jibril Jimeta of Yola North and Tijani Atiku of Maiha expressed gratitude to the PDP for past opportunities while stating their intent to pursue a new political direction with the APC.
