Adamawa man arraigned for allegedly abducting niece to sell for N7m

Andrawus James, a resident of Bai village in Adamawa State, has been arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola for the alleged abduction of his 18-year-old niece, Fatima. James reportedly lured the victim with a false promise of securing employment for her in Abuja.

According to police reports, James had entered into an agreement with a prospective buyer to sell the girl for N7 million. After deceiving the victim, he transported her to Ganye, intending to hand her over to an intermediary. However, the plan was thwarted when a local resident, Mohamed Buba, alerted security personnel, leading to James' arrest.

The defendant faces charges related to abduction and the buying or selling of persons for immoral purposes. The court has ordered that James be remanded in a correctional facility while the case is adjourned pending legal advice from the state Department of Prosecution. The Adamawa State Police Command has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy regarding human trafficking and gender-based violence.
