Adamawa political shifts as APM gains members from APC
Political tensions are rising in Adamawa State as the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) strengthens its position following high-profile defections and heated exchanges with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kabiru Mijinyawa, the former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly and current representative for Yola South, announced his departure from the APC to join the APM. Mijinyawa cited injustice, betrayal, and a lack of trust during the APC primary elections as the primary reasons for the move. He expressed confidence in the APM’s ability to expand its base and endorsed its governorship candidate, Abdulrahaman Bashir Haske.
In response to criticisms from former House of Representatives member Salihu Abba Girei, the Haske campaign issued a statement defending the candidate’s experience. The campaign dismissed Girei’s characterization of Haske as inexperienced, noting Haske’s decade-long career as a business executive. The campaign also highlighted Girei’s legal history, noting he was previously banned from holding public office by the Court of Appeal for presenting a forged primary school certificate.
