Şadan Şimşek proposes Saros Municipality for regional development

Şadan Şimşek, a former Edirne deputy, has proposed the establishment of a 'Saros Municipality' to manage the Saros Gulf region through a holistic administrative model. The proposal suggests a regional approach covering the coastline from Keşan Erikli to Enez, moving away from fragmented management limited by district boundaries.

Şimşek argues that the region requires integrated planning for infrastructure, including sewage, wastewater, drinking water, and solid waste management. The model aims to support sustainable tourism, fishing, agriculture, and nature tourism while protecting the marine ecosystem and natural beauty.

Additionally, Şimşek highlighted the financial strain on local municipalities due to seasonal population surges. He called for a special support mechanism coordinated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, suggesting that accommodation tax revenues be utilized to improve regional infrastructure. He also recommended seeking project and financing support through the İller Bankası.
