Turkey crime updates: Murder suspect surrenders and high-profile retrial ordered

In Antalya, a 27-year-old suspect, Talha T., surrendered to police in Konya after allegedly killing his partner, 49-year-old Canan Yıldırım. Following an argument reportedly triggered by jealousy, the suspect allegedly strangled Yıldırım in their home in the Kepez district. After the incident, the suspect traveled by bus to Konya and contacted emergency services to confess to the crime. He is currently in custody and awaits transfer to Antalya for legal proceedings.

Separately, in Mersin, the Adana Regional Court of Justice has ordered a retrial in the case of 16-year-old Hiranur Nilgün Aygar, who was shot and killed in a parked vehicle in August 2025. The court suspended a previous local ruling that had sentenced one defendant to life imprisonment while allowing two others to be released after receiving four-month sentences for destroying evidence. The family of the victim is seeking maximum penalties for all three defendants, and the first hearing of the new trial is scheduled to take place shortly.
