Turkey: Two separate violent deaths spark calls for justice
Two separate violent incidents in Turkey have sparked calls for justice and increased penalties for femicide.
In Bursa's Karacabey district, 18-year-old Gökçe Alkan was killed by her boyfriend, Mustafa B., in a forested area. According to family members, Alkan had intended to meet him to end their four-month relationship after being repeatedly harassed. The suspect allegedly lured her to the location by claiming he had been in a car accident. Following the fatal stabbing, the suspect reportedly injured himself before seeking help. Alkan's family is demanding the strictest possible legal penalties.
In Adana, 42-year-old Özhan Öztürk died after falling from a third-story window in the Sarıçam district. While authorities are investigating, Öztürk's partner, Özgül Koca, alleges that he did not fall by choice but was pushed or forced into a panic. She claims the incident occurred when the woman's ex-husband, M. A. Ç., arrived at the residence, causing Öztürk to attempt to avoid a confrontation. Two suspects, S. K. and M. A. Ç., have been arrested in connection with the death.
