Adana library cafe owner reports increase in book thefts

A library cafe owner in the Kozan district of Adana has reported an increase in book thefts, with security footage capturing a woman placing a book in her bag and leaving the premises.

Nurfigan Menteş, a psychological counselor and the owner of the establishment which has operated for approximately seven years, stated that the thefts often target popular and expensive books priced between 200 and 600 lira. Menteş noted that while they previously attempted to resolve missing books through social media appeals, the recent incident involving a woman who visited two days in a row prompted a review of security cameras.

Menteş expressed frustration over the incidents, describing the thefts as a lack of respect for education. The owner emphasized that reading at the cafe is free of charge and that patrons are welcome to read as much as they wish, provided the books remain on-site.
