Adana real estate agents targeted by new phishing scam

A new fraudulent scheme is targeting real estate agents in Adana, Turkey. According to Ülkü Uçar, President of the Adana Chamber of Real Estate Tradesmen, scammers are posing as officials from property listing portals.

The criminals use a ‘system update’ pretext to trick agents into clicking malicious links, which allows the scammers to hijack their professional accounts. Once in control, the fraudsters post enticing, low-priced property listings to lure citizens into paying deposits for non-existent homes.

In a secondary phase of the scam, the perpetrators contact the actual real estate agents, claiming to be victims who have already sent deposits through the agent's account. This dual-layered approach results in financial losses for both the public and the real estate professionals. The Chamber is currently advising its members to report these incidents to prosecutors.
