Adana resident faces 158,000 TL debt after SGK cancels retirement
Sefalet Verani, a 58-year-old resident of Adana, faces a debt of 158,300 TL after the Social Security Institution (SGK) canceled her retirement. Following an audit, the SGK determined that 1,057 days of her service history did not constitute actual work, due to investigations into her former employer regarding tax evasion and the preparation of fraudulent documents.
Verani had previously met the requirements for retirement, including a birth debt credit, and began receiving a monthly pension of 20,000 TL. However, the SGK revoked her status after discovering that her total valid service days dropped from 3,626 to 2,599. Consequently, she has been ordered to repay the pension payments she received, plus legal interest, and is now facing General Health Insurance (GSS) debts.
Verani, who holds a 60 percent disability report, has announced her intention to pursue legal action. She stated that she can prove her actual employment through ten witnesses and maintains that she should not be held financially responsible for her former employer's illegal activities.
