Adanía Shibli discusses new novel in Barcelona

Palestinian author Adanía Shibli discussed her new novel, ‘Engaño’, during her visit to Barcelona as an invited guest of the CCCB for La Setmana del Llibre en Català.

Shibli explained that her characters exist in a state of temporal stagnation caused by the Israeli occupation. She noted that Palestinians are often excluded from the ability to plan for a future, describing their existence as a circular movement where the past constantly intrudes upon the present, effectively trapping them in time. The novel explores these themes through unnamed protagonists facing a lack of perspective and mobility.
