Adana shooting: Contractor arrested for killing partner and son
A contractor has been arrested in Adana, Turkey, following a shooting that left a retired police officer and his son dead. The suspect, Mehmet Nuri Ataş, allegedly targeted his business partner, Aytekin Fil, due to a dispute involving a debt of 40 million lira.
The incident occurred in the Çukurova district when Ataş went to Fil's workplace. After a confrontation, Ataş shot Aytekin Fil and his wife, Neslihan Fil. As the suspect attempted to flee in a light commercial vehicle, the couple's son, Sinan Fil, boarded the vehicle to intercept him. During the ensuing struggle, Ataş shot Sinan Fil in the head.
Ataş abandoned the vehicle in the Seyhan district and fled on foot but was later apprehended by homicide detectives at a residence where he was hiding. In his statement to police, Ataş claimed, “We did joint construction work. He did not pay my share of 40 million lira. An argument broke out between us, so I shot him.”
Aytekin and Sinan Fil were buried at Kabasakal Cemetery. Neslihan Fil, who was injured in the attack, was discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
