Adana water play parks launched to prevent child drownings
To combat rising drowning incidents in irrigation canals, the Yüreğir Municipality in Adana has established water play parks in three locations: Köprülü, Atakent, and PTT Evleri neighborhoods. Adana is one of Turkey’s hottest regions, and this year alone, 20 people have died in irrigation canals, with an annual average of approximately 30 young people lost to these waters.
The parks are designed to provide a safe, controlled, and clean environment for children to cool off during the summer months. They operate six days a week, excluding Mondays, during specific morning and afternoon sessions.
Yüreğir Deputy Mayor Cafer Boyraz stated that the municipality intends to increase the number of these parks and expand them to more strategic locations to ensure children have access to safe recreational spaces.
