Turkey: Protests and arrests follow recent cases of violence against women

Recent incidents of violence against women in Turkey have sparked public protests and legal actions. In Kozan, Adana, a large group of women and political representatives gathered at Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu Park to demand justice for 22-year-old Sevda Dinler. Dinler was shot and killed with a shotgun on October 21 at the Dağılcak Picnic Area by 40-year-old Gamber Fidan after she rejected his advances. The suspect, who was apprehended by a civilian sergeant at the scene, has been arrested.

In Malatya, Furkan D. was arrested after a knife attack on Tuğçe Pekcan and her mother, Gülşen Pekcan. Security footage captured the suspect entering the home with a knife, while the victim's children were seen hiding in fear. Tuğçe Pekcan, who had previously filed multiple complaints against the suspect, stated she was seeking protection from the state.

Additionally, in İzmir, the murder of three women—Ebru Serep, Pınar Güneş, and Özge Penbegül—within a ten-day period has led to calls from the İzmir Bar Association and women's rights platforms. Activists are demanding more effective implementation of protection orders and stricter oversight of firearm access to prevent further tragedies.
