Adani Power resumes supply as Rampal plant unit shuts down

Bangladesh's national power grid experienced conflicting shifts in electricity supply on Sunday due to simultaneous changes at two major power sources. Adani Power resumed full operations at its coal-fired plant in Jharkhand, India, increasing its supply to the Bangladesh grid to approximately 1,046 MW after resolving technical faults that had previously limited generation.

However, the relief provided by Adani's increased output was offset by a technical failure at the Rampal coal-fired power plant in Bagerhat. Around 11:30 AM, one unit at Rampal shut down for maintenance, causing its electricity generation to drop from over 1,100 MW to below 600 MW.

Mohammad Jahurul Islam, a member of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), stated that Unit-2 at Rampal was closed for maintenance and requires a cool-down period. Engineers from India are expected to arrive to assist with repairs. While Adani's supply has stabilized, the sudden reduction in output from the Rampal plant has placed renewed pressure on the national grid management.
