ADAS safety systems could face mandatory inspection checks

A proposal has been presented in Rome to include systematic checks of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) during periodic vehicle inspections. Discussed at an Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) conference, the initiative aims to verify the functionality of sensors, radars, and cameras, such as emergency braking and lane-keeping systems, which are currently not subject to mandatory efficiency testing during inspections.

Industry representatives, including experts from NEXION and TEXA, noted that while these technologies help prevent accidents, the European regulatory framework still needs further definition. Workshop associations have also emphasized the need for investment in specialized tools and training to ensure these safety systems are correctly maintained and calibrated.
