Addiction treatment centers enhance accessibility and specialized care

Addiction treatment centers in Argentina and Spain are implementing specialized approaches to improve patient care and accessibility. In Argentina, staff at the Centro Preventivo Local de Adicciones (CEPLA) have undergone training in Argentine Sign Language (LSA). This initiative aims to remove communication barriers for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals participating in the center's workshops and activities.

In Spain, the Centro de Adicciones Comportamentales (AdCom) at the Gregorio Marañón Hospital has treated over 2,300 patients during its first four years of operation. The center provides direct access to specialized care for behavioral addictions without requiring a referral from primary care. Data shows that gambling is the most frequent issue among adults, particularly via the internet, followed by sexual addiction and compulsive shopping. The center also notes a significant presence of comorbid conditions, such as ADHD, depression, and anxiety.
