Addu Midhoo hosts special fishing forum

A special forum titled “Facing the Challenges of Fishing” was held in Addu Midhoo to commemorate World Food Day and National Fishers Day. The event was officially opened by Ahmed Shiyam, the Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture.

During the forum, Minister Shiyam highlighted Addu Midhoo’s long history in the fishing sector and noted the significant efforts made by local fishers to transition toward modern fishing practices. He emphasized that the future of the industry in the Maldives rests with the youth, urging them to combine academic knowledge with practical experience.

The forum included participation from local fishers, students from South Atoll School, and members of the public. Students presented creative works and ideas regarding the fishing industry, and the event featured a panel discussion addressing the challenges and potential growth of the sector.
