Adega Mayor Verdelho 2024 wins white‑wine award at Portugal's Escolha do Mercado
The Adega Mayor Regional Alentejano Verdelho 2024 was named the best white wine in the 7–20 euro price range at the 2026 Escolha do Mercado competition, judged by sommeliers, restaurateurs and wine‑bar owners. CEO Rita Nabeiro highlighted the prize as a testament to the winery’s focus on terroir, sustainability and the distinctive "freshness and versatility" of the Alentejo vintage.
In the same year, the broader Vinhos de Portugal contest honoured several other Portuguese labels: Quinta das Bágeiras Fogueira 2023 earned Best White Blend, Encontro 1 Arinto 2017 was named Best Varietal White, and Andreza Espumante Brut Nature 2020 took Best Sparkling Wine. ViniPortugal President Frederico Falcão said the winners showcase the country’s "extraordinary diversity" and ability to produce wines suited to a range of occasions and consumer tastes. The contest distributed 351 prizes, including 30 Grand Gold, 87 Gold and 234 Silver awards.
