Adekunle Gold discusses Nigerian democracy and friendship with Davido

Afrobeats singer Adekunle Gold has expressed concerns regarding the state of democracy in Nigeria. During an appearance on the One54 Podcast, Gold suggested that the country is not fully practicing the ideals of a democratic society.

Gold’s remarks were made in the context of fellow singer Davido’s decision to appeal to United States President Donald Trump regarding the Osun State governorship election. Gold stated that Davido’s decision to contact the international community was understandable, noting, “I don’t think we’re truly practicing democracy. We aren’t doing what a democratic society should do.”

In the same interview, Gold also discussed his personal relationship with Davido, describing him as a loyal friend whose support extends beyond the music industry. He noted that their bond strengthened following their 2021 musical collaboration on the track “High”.
