Adekunle Gold launches $20,000 sickle cell support initiative

Afrobeats singer Adekunle Gold has announced a $20,000 fund to support organizations dedicated to improving the lives of people living with sickle cell disease. Launched through the Adekunle Gold Foundation in partnership with the financial platform PESA, the initiative is part of the foundation’s ‘WE’RE NOT DONE’ campaign.

The funding will benefit four selected organizations across Nigeria, Canada, Ghana, and the United Kingdom: the Sickle Cell Advocacy Management Initiative (Nigeria), Not Just You (Canada), Sickle Life (Ghana), and It Takes A Village (United Kingdom). These groups will use the resources to expand efforts in healthcare access, patient support, public education, and advocacy.

Gold emphasized the necessity of collective action, stating, ‘The fight against sickle cell is bigger than any one person or foundation.’ The initiative builds on previous foundation activities, such as medical outreaches and free health insurance provisions in Lagos.
