Adelaide Crows assistant defends Matthew Nicks' coaching tenure
Adelaide Crows assistant coach Scott Burns has defended Matthew Nicks' position as head coach, arguing that Nicks deserves to continue his tenure regardless of the outcome in the upcoming elimination final against the Western Bulldogs.
Nicks, currently in his seventh season, has indicated that he has received no guarantee from the club hierarchy regarding the final year of his contract. However, Burns highlighted the significant turnaround the club has undergone, noting that the organization has moved from a state of “disarray” several years ago to becoming a consistent finals contender.
Burns pointed to the club's improved offensive and defensive rankings over the last four seasons and Nicks' approximately 70 per cent winning rate over the past two years as evidence of progress. He suggested that the current speculation regarding Nicks' job security is actually a credit to the elevated expectations established during his leadership.
