Adelaide University partners with Raspberry Pi Foundation to bring AI education to Australian teachers

Adelaide University’s Computer Science Education Research (CSER) Group is partnering with the Raspberry Pi Foundation to launch the ‘Experience AI’ program in Australia. Developed alongside Google DeepMind and funded by Google.org, the initiative provides teachers with free, research-based resources including lesson plans, videos, and assessments. The curriculum aims to demystify AI functions for students while addressing critical challenges such as data privacy, misinformation, deepfakes, and the responsible use of generative AI.

Concurrently, discussions regarding AI in schools highlight growing concerns over digital equity. Research suggests a potential new digital divide, as low-poverty school districts are nearly twice as likely to provide formal AI training to teachers compared to underfunded districts. Experts note that while many districts are implementing AI frameworks, there is a pressing need for detailed, binding policies and technical scrutiny to ensure ethical implementation and protect student agency.
