Adem Küçük warns of rheumatism risks from pollution and smoking
Prof. Dr. Adem Küçük, a specialist in rheumatology and internal medicine at Necmettin Erbakan University (NEÜ) Faculty of Medicine, highlighted the importance of early diagnosis in preventing permanent joint damage during a medical seminar in Konya.
During his presentation, Dr. Küçük noted that environmental factors, such as air pollution, have become significant triggers for rheumatic diseases compared to the past. He also emphasized that smoking directly triggers antibody formation and rheumatic conditions. To reduce the risk of rheumatism, he recommended weight management and smoking cessation.
Dr. Küçük stressed the need for increased public awareness to prevent delays in diagnosis, noting that patients often struggle to find the correct specialist, which can lead to complications. He advised that symptoms such as joint swelling, redness, and back pain should be addressed by a specialist immediately.
