Burdur Deputy requests protection following alleged threats from Governor
AK Party Burdur Deputy Adem Korkmaz has requested close protection from the Ankara Governor's Office, alleging that Burdur Governor Tülay Baydar Bilgihan made threatening remarks against him.
The dispute reportedly stems from Korkmaz raising citizen complaints regarding a mandatory digital water meter implementation in Burdur to the Ministry of Interior in Ankara. Korkmaz claims that during a subsequent meeting to clarify certain statements, Governor Bilgihan used the phrase, “If something happens to me, I will take the teacher (hocayı) with me.”
Korkmaz characterized these words as an “open, direct, and serious threat” and expressed concerns for his personal safety. He noted that the tension has been ongoing and cited being excluded from August 30 celebrations as a further sign of escalating friction. He has formally petitioned for a security detail to accompany him during both local and inter-city travel.
