Aden authorities conduct mass burial of 21 unidentified bodies
The Public Prosecution in Aden has commenced the mass burial of 21 unidentified bodies that were being held in forensic refrigerators at Al-Jumhouria and Al-Sadaqa hospitals. The operation was carried out under the direction of Attorney General Qaher Mustafa Ali and Minister of Justice Badr Al-Ardah, in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
This action is part of ongoing efforts to address the accumulation of unidentified remains in hospital morgues. According to Jaafar Fadl Abdullah, Director General of the National Center for Forensic Medicine, the process follows strict legal and humanitarian protocols. These include creating individual files, photographing the deceased, issuing burial orders, and documenting all available data.
To assist in future identification, authorities are implementing a system of identification numbers and recording data on tombstones, alongside maintaining both electronic and paper records. This initiative follows previous burial operations conducted by the Public Prosecution and the ICRC to manage morgue congestion while preserving the dignity of the deceased.
