Aden gas crisis causes traffic chaos and monopoly allegations
Aden is facing a severe gas crisis characterized by long queues and significant traffic disruptions. Residents and drivers are reporting that queues at domestic gas filling stations are blocking major roads and intersections, particularly near the Al-Qarsh station in the Sheikh Othman district. These bottlenecks often coincide with morning commute hours, causing delays for students and employees.
Simultaneously, owners of automotive gas stations have accused the Yemen Gas Company (Safer) of corruption and monopolistic practices. Station owners claim that gas supplies arriving from Marib are being intentionally diverted to newly established institutions, while established stations that meet safety standards are being deprived of their daily allocations. They have called for government intervention to ensure a transparent and fair distribution of resources to alleviate the ongoing supply crisis.
